What this study is about

LECT (Language Evolution Collective) is a citizen-science project of the University of Zürich. It documents how languages and cultures change across generations and regions, using contributions from participants in Switzerland and Kenya. Principal investigator and institute: to be confirmed.

What taking part involves

• You create an account and fill in a short profile: name, year of birth, where you live and which languages you speak.
• You answer surveys about your language use.
• You watch short videos and retell them in your own words, recorded with your device's camera and microphone.
• You may add family members as additional profiles and invite relatives, so language use can be compared across generations.

You can work offline: contributions are stored on your device and uploaded automatically once you have a connection again.

Taking part is voluntary

There is no obligation to answer any question and no obligation to record anything. You can stop at any time and withdraw your participation without giving a reason and without any disadvantage.

How your contributions are used

Your answers and recordings are used for scientific research and are published only in aggregated or anonymised form. They are not used commercially and not for advertising. Details of storage, retention and access are described in the Privacy Policy. Datenschutzerklärung
